A Tragedy in Beirut, Lebanon, October 23, 1983

A truck filled with explosives, driven by a suicidal terrorist, crashed into the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut.  In the explosion 241 Marines were killed and 80 wounded.  A coordinated bombing of French military quarters, the same day, claimed 56 dead.  President Reagan had sent the Marines to Beirut to police the civil war in Lebanon. They went in Peace.

We regret that we must report the loss of one of our comrades.

Bruce Hollingshead passed away on October 23, 1983 during the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon.  He was among the contingent of US Marines stationed in Beirut.  He left behind a wife, Melinda Moyer, who was herself a graduate of Park Hills/Fairborn High School.

He is gone, but not forgotten.

See the memorial page dedicated to all the brave men in uniform that lost their lives in this senseless tragedy.
